100th Birthday, Ted Coburn, Newburyport

Happy 100th Birthday Ted! Local Newburyport resident, Edward “Ted” Coburn, WWII Veteran turned 100 years young on May 6, 2024! On that same day, Ted competed in his 10th Senior Olympics and took home six Gold medals; 1 mile & 1/2 mile race walk, javelin, discus, softball & shot put throw. He bikes five miles and walks two miles every day. A life long sailor and racer and an avid horseback rider, (cantering on his 98th birthday), Ted Coburn is an inspiration to all!

On Saturday, June 15th at 1 pm all are invited to participate in a Birthday drive-by at 50 Tyng Street in Newburyport. Coordinated by Lt. Simmons of the Newburyport Police Department, don’t miss this 100th birthday tribute honoring Ted Coburn.

After high school Ted joined the U.S. Navy, stationed in the Pacific on the USS Steele, a destroyer escort. Ted graduated from Tri-State College in Indiana with a mechanical engineering degree, and went on to work for Warren Pumps as their New England district sales manager.

Ted raised his 4 daughters, where he grew up, in Weston, MA on the family’s 6th generation farm. He spent his retirement in West Falmouth and the last 10 years at Linden Ponds in Hingham, with his beloved, late wife of 37 years, Peggy Coburn. For Ted, it’s his love for his family, which includes six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren that inspires him to keep going.
