What is an Invitation Night—and do you need a formal invitation to attend? The answers are simple. Newburyport-area residents and visitors seeking the ultimate holiday shopping experience skip the malls in favor of Newburyport Invitation Nights—a series of “Shop Local” evenings where downtown retailers stay open late, offering light refreshments, merchant hospitality, and festive cheer. Spirited crowds fill the streets, enjoying live entertainment, twinkling lights, and all that this vibrant waterfront city has to offer.
Throughout December, Newburyport sparkles with holiday magic. From the beautifully decorated homes on High Street to the loyal downtown shops and restaurants all decked out for the season, the city captures the warmth and charm of a classic New England holiday. The towering Christmas tree in the center of Market Square shines brightly, complemented by festive wreaths and lights adorning the street lamps. During Invitation Nights, visitors often enjoy holiday music, carolers, instrumentalists, and children’s choirs adding even more joy to the experience. Check the Newburyport Events Calendar for special concerts, plays, and other seasonal highlights from the city’s vibrant arts community.
