VirtuE Jewelers Atelier, fine jewelry shop in downtown Newburyport evokes two words the moment you enter the door: warm and inviting.  Owner and Master Jeweler, Erdem Kaya has turned his long-held dream into reality by opening his own North Shore store and creating a space to showcase his custom jewelry design with an open workshop to bring his inspirations to life. It is, as he will proudly tell you, his “happy place” and this is well reflected in his choice of furnishings, decor, and display cases designed expressly for VirtuE and the fine jewelry he expertly crafts.

Six months of hard work from demo to up-to-the-last minute arrivals of furniture have completely transformed the space on State Street, old face in a new space! Soft pink paint on the walls surrounds a sitting area with plush velvet couches that face the lively street… beckoning you to sit and relax as you admire the fine jewelry cases which, with black curved legs and gilded edges, resemble elegant furniture more than traditional display cases. Most all offerings of fine jewelry at VirtuE Jewelers Atelier are Erdem’s custom jewelry design, made by the owner himself, though he does have offerings from other designers who share his same passion and aesthetic. Impressionistic paintings on the wall are by Candy Way, a local North Shore artist and are available for purchase.  One other eye-catching painting, adorning an exposed brick wall, has been permanently donated by a beloved family friend and colleague and is not available, “at any price,” shares Erdem with a smile.

Erdem Kaya brings over 23 years of fine jewelry making experience in Newburyport to VirtuE Jewelers Atelier and he specializes in custom jewelry design including: engagement rings, precious metal work in gold, silver and platinum, gemstones and pavé diamond settings. He prides himself on using traditional techniques while learning and staying up to date on modern styles and technologies to keep his creations timeless and classic yet ever evolving. State of the art platinum casting and 3D printer machines in his atelier allow the master jeweler to mold and create intricate, one-of-a-kind designs for a customer right in this one location…saving time and allowing for any changes should he or the customer desire. There is a zero-intimidation factor at VirtuE Jewelers (the name of the shop is a nod to Erdem’s Turkish heritage, Erdem meaning virtue and the capital E is his first initial).  Stopping in for just a watch battery replacement, band adjustment or setting repair is welcomed and one of the many reasons Erdem has both a North Shore and worldwide loyal customer following.  The grand opening of VirtuE Jewelers Atelier in March of 2022 brought out crowds of supporters as well as Mayor Sean Reardon, for the ribbon cutting.  “It was truly a humbling moment,” said Erdem who was grateful for such a huge turnout of well-wishers celebrating the new business owner and all his hard work over the years. “It is truly touching, he said, to see parents and grandparents brining their children to see me and becoming more than customers, they are now friends.”
